After Brexit, UK and the European Union formalized on an agreement that guarantees tariff-free access between the EU and UK markets, but does not change the compliance process, hence the UKCA and compliance with legislation of the United Kingdom remain mandatory for placing goods on the market in Great Britain.

The new UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) mark declares that the product complies with all applicable UK legislative requirements and that the appropriate conformity assessment procedures have been successfully completed.

As of January 1, 2021, the UKCA marking will replace the CE marking as a requirement for goods entering the market of Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales). UKCA marking will be required on products subject to UK legislation equivalent to all EU directives / regulations requiring CE marking, including radio equipment, electromagnetic compatibility and low voltage directives.

However, the CE marking can still be used until 31 December 2022, provided that the requirements for EU and UK legislation continue to be the same, but from 1 January 2023 it will be mandatory to affix the UKCA mark.

For Northern Ireland, the CE mark will continue to be the conformity assessment mark for most goods. Manufacturers may also need the UK(NI) mark if they select UK approved bodies for approvals or certification.
